Cyclethon will help children in need of facial surgery

-

Cape Town will be graced with its first-ever Cyclethon in aid of raising money for the Smile Foundation.

The event will take place at the V&A Waterfront next Saturday and will see participants sweat it out as they do their bit for charity.

The Smile Foundation is about putting smiles on the faces of children in South Africa by helping kids with anomalies that require facial reconstructive surgery.

The foundation helps children who suffer from treatable facial anomalies such as cleft lip and palate, burns, moebius syndrome and microtia.

Sessions will be 50 minutes long and the public is welcome to do as many sessions as they wish. Executive director of the Smile Foundation Hedley Lewis said they were extremely excited to finally bring this meaningful event to Cape Town.

“Not only is it a great way to celebrate our sunshine weather and get healthy, but it helps generate funds that make a genuine, tangible difference in children’s lives, and I couldn’t think of anything that could be more rewarding than that.”

V&A Waterfront chief executive David Green said they were proud to host the inaugural Smile Cyclethon, an event with a great cause.

“We wish the team everything of the best and hope that this is only the start of the work we can do together.”

The public can enter online at www. quicket.co.za/ Cyclethon-V&A Waterfront or visit the V&A Waterfront early on the day to register and book their spot. Entries cost R160 per bike per hour and the cyclethon runs from 8am to 1pm. – Staff Reporter
