Let’s talk about ‘moral behaviour’, shall we?

- RON MIDDLETON Plumstead

WHAT has happened to “everyone is entitled to their own opinion”?

Apart from freedom of speech, the present government is even debating and legislating on moral behaviour.

As if most of the top echelon of government has much in the way of moral behaviour. Judging from their own behaviour – there are discrepancies even to the top of the pack.

Spending millions on their own private properties, their personal comfort in squeezing the maximum government allowances in luxury travel and hotels but most of all, protecting and even promoting those in their ranks who are stealing billions of rand from the man in the street.

Just like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Then when Zuma stands up in Parliament and refuses to answer questions or simply is unable to excuse his atrocious actions or those of his cronies, he brings up the “colonial” or “apartheid” card, then everyone in the ANC claps. But everyone cannot be completely good or bad.

Zuma is not all bad. He is a pretty good giggler and dances very well or sings in a fair voice, the machine gun song (to shoot the farmers?)

Helen Zille runs the best province in South Africa. Only stupid or blind people will contest this. I, personally, as an octogenarian in good health, can testify to this, as a result of nursing care at Lady Michaelis and Victoria Hospital from the Western Cape Government.

While people, even pregnant mothers and babies are dying in other provinces due to bad service, neglect and ignorance – simply not doing or caring about the jobs they were appointed and paid to do. Many only look at their self interest and they make use of every loophole to enrich themselves.

And so it is with most other departments, municipalities and government-owned corporations who rely on the legacies inherited from colonial administrations.

Just like colonialism, Helen Zille may have some faults which I do not know about, but if so, they do not affect me as a South African.

Thank goodness for Zille. To those that criticise her, think of the good she does for all the citizens of this country, by her example of good government and particularly for those in the Western Province.Do not use your criticisms as an excuse to take over from her or simply because she is a white woman.
