Double deal of dicing at Killarney for petrol-heads

-

WITH South Africa’s fastest racing cars and motorcycles appearing on the same track for the first time in four years, tomorrow’s combined Extreme Festival and DEOD Super GP bike meeting at Killarney is expected to be a cracker.

Highlights are set to include the first appearance this season of the revamped Global Touring Cars that have not only increased in number, but are also believed to be considerably quicker than last year’s cars.

On two wheels, the Cape’s Lance Isaacs is up against former national champion Clinton Sellar, while David McFadden is back from a successful season in Europe and will be astride a new “works” BMW S1000RR.

Tomorrow, the youngsters will be particularly well-looked after. Teenagers can indulge in laps of corporate karting on Killarney’s national championship circuit.

However, entertainment for junior school will be centred around the clubhouse, where electric-powered bumper cars will be in action in the spacious main hall on the ground floor.

On a quieter note, face painting upstairs is expected to become an art form for all age groups.

Outside, kids will be able to select from the jungle gyms, jumping castles and trampolines.

There will also be live music from a selection of top bands, as well as no shortage of food and drink.

Admission is R100 for adults and R40 for children under the age of 16. There is no charge for children under 12. – Adrien Pheiffer
