Second teen shot, killed in ‘gang hit’
A SECOND teenager was gunned down in Hanover Park in the space of a week in yet another apparent gang-related shooting.
EMS spokesperson Robert Daniels said emergency services received a call yesterday morning about a 15-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head. “EMS dispatched a crew to the scene at 8.07am where they discovered the body of the teenager. It is believed that he was caught in gang-related crossfire,” Daniels said.
But a witness, who did not want to be named, for fear of reprisal said that Dorian Solomons was shot about three minutes away from his house while he was accompanying two female upils.
It’s believed that two boys aged between 17 and 18 shot Solomons from behind and when he fell, they came “close to finish him off and shot him in the head” the unnamed witness said.
Dorian’s mother, Jacqueline, said she was lying in bed when she heard people outside screaming her son’s name.
“I heard people screaming his name. I rushed to the scene which is three minutes away from my house. There was a qualified nurse who felt my son’s pulse and confirmed that he was still alive,” Solomons said.
“I had hope that my son will live. Then the lady felt his pulse again and said there was no sign of life. I felt weak and all hope left me as my neighbour comforted me.
“My child was no longer part of any gang.
“He changed when he got back from reformatory school, even there they released him two days before Christmas on good behaviour.”
She said she had been waiting for the Department of Education to place him in a school.
“He was looking forward to going back to school. I am only left with two sons now – my eldest and my youngest. This whole incident is bringing back bad memories because I lost my other son in 2013 the same way and my husband was also gunned down in 2005,” she said.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said: “The police are investigating a murder and anybody with information is requested to call the investigating official, Detective Sergeant Zamuxolo Lengesi at 073 676 8983 or 021 690 1517 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.” – okuhle.hlati@ inl.co.za
