Committed to saving lives through lifesaving

- Marvin Charles

THE GENERAL Tire Lifesaving South Africa championship is set to take place this weekend at Camps Bay.

More than 700 competitors from around the country will be participating at the four-day event in a variety of lifesaving events.

The General Tire event recently committed in excess of R5 million to a three-year investment in lifesaving South Africa. This is in addition to their road safety initiatives along with the significant need for water safety.

Among the world champions that will be attending will be sprint medalist Ryle de Morny and Mandi Maritz .

They will be part of the world class acts on the day.

De Morny is known as the quickest man on beach sand in South Africa and for the last decade he has been the fastest in the world. Through his quick feet he has won a double gold medal.

South Africa’s sport media remains invested in mainstream sports when it comes to celebrating gold and other accolades.

Other sports struggle to get their name out in a big way. General Tire Lifesaving’s priority is to prevent drownings at South Africa’s beaches. The event is set to highlight the sport of lifesaving and to applaud the heroes who take the time to ensure our beaches remain safe.
