Open Streets Day in Mitchells Plain

- Marvin Charles

MITCHELLS PLAIN will be hosting the annual “Open Streets Day” on Sunday in Eisleben Road.

This community day is a celebration of public space that is free and open to everyone. The day will enable visitors to use the street to walk, cycle, skate, play or perform.

The focus of this family day is to create an urban playground for all ages to enjoy a healthy space, and to showcase how streets can be utilised for the benefit of everyone.

In honour of the Cape Argus’s 160th birthday the newspaper has decided to participate in the initiative. The Argus’s activation will be “Breaking News/Birthday Celebration”.

“As a newspaper we regard ourselves as being part of the community, and as a paper we cater for everyone. To be part of Open Streets coincides with what we stand for, and that’s bringing people together,” said Cape Argus editor Aziz Hartley.

There will be many road closures between 11am and 5pm. Access to parking on Eisleben Road between Wespoort Drive and Spine Road will be restricted.
