The strikingly ironic truth

-

TONY Ehrenreich took issue with companies for allowing their staff to take annual leave in order to partake in the protest marches against the corrupt Jacob Zuma. He also stated that employers in the eighties were deducting wages from employees when they protested against the apartheid government. How ironic. By deducting wages from the employees, the employers were also indirectly denying the government taxes. We all know that, near the end, the NP government was struggling financially.

We have the opportunity to do the same to this government – when we protest, we must sacrifice our wages for the day, otherwise nothing will be achieved.

The government is wasting taxpayers’ money. As long as we continue to pay our taxes, we can protest all we like, the government will still show us the middle finger in the end because, ultimately, they are still getting our taxes, and that is all they are interested in.

We need to hurt them where it counts – deny them our taxes. It is illegal to withhold paying tax, but if we are not getting paid, no tax can be deducted and our objective will be obtained. Just one day of no income tax and millions will be lost to the government.

In the eighties we didn’t have much, but we sacrificed and got our wish in 1994, our democracy. We need to let go of our material possessions for a day or two so that we can hurt Jacob Zuma where it matters – our tax money that he steals.

So, Mr Ehrenreich, when the companies allow their employees to take annual leave when they protest against Jacob Zuma, their actions are actually benefiting him, which is contrary to what we want. PETER-JOHN ROMAN Athlone
