Science and freedom celebrated together
THE Cape Town Science Centre will celebrate the work of teachers on Freedom Day.
On Thursday, teachers and schools from around the Western Cape will be at the centre to participate in activities.
Senior communicator at the centre, Nadine Nortier, said this would be the first official celebration there for teachers.
“About 100 teachers have confirmed that they will be present on Friday between 9.30am and 4pm for the celebration.”
Nortier said the event would not only be used to honour teachers and the work they have done, but also be a platform for conversations about how to use technology in the classroom.
“We expect to assist and equip teachers on how to use ‘the classroom of the future’ by making accessible information and the way teachers teach,” she said.
The use of science and technology activities addressed the innovative way education can motivate and stimulate the confidence of teachers and learners both in and outside of the classroom.
The event will also interest the youth in science and offer educational services to learners and educators across South Africa.
These activities will include popular science shows, science theatres, workshops and various entertaining science-based activities.
“We recognise the importance of stimulating our teachers as it is our purpose to make sense of the science that shapes our lives and trigger the spark that ignites young minds to want to study maths, science and technology and lead them to think of a career or life-long interest in these subjects,” Nortier said.
Teachers are encouraged to bring along their Persal numbers when signing in at the registration desk.
There is a standard entry fee of R50 for family or friends that the teachers wish to bring along.
