Police pleased with successes

WESTERN CAPE police are pleased with the quality of the investigat­ions which led to lengthy conviction­s of offenders who committed serious crimes, such as motor vehicle thefts, murder and robbery.

Police spokespers­on Andrè Traut said at least eight offenders, who were arrested in 2016, had been sentenced.

In Bellville, Kyle Bishton was sentenced to five years imprisonme­nt for the theft of a motor vehicle.

“Mark Solomon’s fate is five years imprisonme­nt for stealing a motor vehicle in Mitchells Plain in February 2016.

“Cheslin Williams and Lionel Cupido will spend three years in prison for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle in March 2016.

“In Conville, Jazine Vryburg was sentenced to three years in prison for the theft of a motor vehicle in April 2016.”

Traut said Karl Menzel would spend six years in prison and had another two years suspended for five years for stealing a motor vehicle in Cape Town in September 2016.

“In November two offenders were arrested. Andile Simama was sentenced to six years imprisonme­nt for theft in Malmesbury.

“Mikelo Madame will have to spend four years in prison for stealing a motor vehicle in Plettenber­g Bay. Two of his six years sentence were suspended for five years.

“Mvusa Ndlangana and Camagu Xego were both sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison for a murder, attempted murder and a business robbery perpetrate­d in Kuils River during April 2015.

“Sedick Kriel was handed down five years in prison for stealing a motor vehicle in Claremont in July 2012.”

The Western Cape police have also welcomed the life imprisonme­nt sentence handed down by the Vredenburg regional court to a Vredenburg father for raping his biological daughter.

“Through a responsive investigat­ion by an FCS unit investigat­or, a Vredenburg father was convicted for raping his biological daughter over a period of time since 2008.

“On July 5, 2016, a 17-year-old victim, upon learning that a crime against her was being committed, reported her ordeal to police.

“We are pleased with the outcome of the recent court proceeding­s, which we attribute to the dedication of our investigat­ors, who strive to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.”
