CHAIRMAN of the AU Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat has congratula­ted Dr Tedros Adhanom on his election as the first ever director-general of the World Health Organisati­on (WHO) from Africa.

“The world has chosen a consummate global health statesman with a strong track record of embedding global public health and health security as a vital cornerston­e of human developmen­t,” said Mahamat. Adhanom, of Ethiopia, beat British and Pakistani candidates to win the top job.
