Gatesville Mosque to launch smartphone app

-

MASJIDUL-Quds, also known as the Gatesville Mosque, will be heralding in the blessed month of Ramadaan with more than 6 000 worshippers.

The biggest mosque in Cape Town and one of the largest in South Africa, its open door policy of embracing all shades of thought within the Islamic ethos has made it unique.

This year the mosque hosts the acclaimed international Islamic scholar and motivational speaker Mufti Ismail Menk.

In another groundbreaking event, the mosque committee will launch the first comprehensive smartphone app for a mosque. This is a leap into the world of modern technology, taking the message of moderation and tolerance from the mosque to the world. Mufti Menk will launch the app on May 26 when he delivers the talk before Friday prayers. Thousands of worshippers are expected.

In another first, the mosque is hosting an international conference “An ummah (people) in disarray – seeking common ground towards the path of unity”. This is in response to the global scourge of terrorism perpetrated in the name of Islam.

Panellists include Mufti Menk, and endorsement via video by Sheikh Muhammed Bin Yahya al Ninowy from the US, former ambassador to Washington Ebrahim Rasool, Cape Town scholar Sheikh Sadullah Khan, Sheikh Fakhruddin Owaisi, Sheikh Muhammed West and former acting judge from Durban, advocate Hafiz AB Mohammed.

There will also be an orphan outreach programme spearheaded by committee member Laila Parker. Every Sunday morning, Sheikh Abduraghmaan Alexander hosts a special programme attended by over 1 000 women.

We wish all Muslims a spiritually uplifting Ramadaan.
