Atlantis student, 21, wins bursary
A WOMAN from Atlantis has won a R10 000 bursary to support her studies thanks to Oxford University Press SA.
Chante Stemmet, 21, who is studying law at Stellenbosch University, faced severe financial difficulties growing up, but that didn’t stop her doing well at school and rising above her circumstances.
Stemmet entered the #OxfordCares competition which gives 12 postgraduate students a bursary to help support their studies. Bursaries vary from R25 000 to R5 000.
“I’m so happy, it all just feels like a dream come true,” she said.
Initially, she didn’t know about the competition. “Then my parents suggested I enter. It just feels like there is this huge financial burden lifted off them,” she said. “My father was retrenched when I was still in school.”
“Over the past few years we saw that students were severely underfunded, and we began focusing on this,” said Oxford University Press SA chief executive Steve Cilliers.
