Girl, 15, missing for two weeks

- Marvin Charles

THE police have confirmed they are investigating the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl.

Erin Fredericks went missing two weeks ago. She was last seen at her father’s house in Grassy Park.

“We are aware of the missing person. She was reported missing on June 2. The investigation continues,” said police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana.

Meanwhile, the Mitchells Plain Crisis Forum has joined forces with community activist Lucinda Evans from Lavender Hill to assist in the search for Erin.

On Saturday night the group launched an extensive search for the teen, but were unsuccessful.

“At the moment we are targeting all areas that are overgrown with vegetation. Two weeks is a very long time, so we will be searching under bridges, too,” said the forum’s Joanie Fredricks.

She added that there were certain things that did not add up.

“To me, there are many factors that do not make sense. The father said that he reported Erin missing, but when the mother followed up at the police station, no case had been opened.”

Her father, Ivan Fredericks, said: “I am so tired of people doubting me and questioning me. I loved my daughter so much, I gave her everything she wanted, but I noticed some changes in her behaviour. She started being naughty. I last saw her on Saturday morning when she asked me for R20. She said she was hungry and wanted a pie. She was with me for the whole week as she had been suspended at school for smoking dagga. I thought she had run away like she used to when she didn’t return home.”

Her mother, Margeret de Koker, has barley slept over the past two weeks.

“Erin was suppose to be with her father, but she wasn’t. He told me that I should not worry because he had already opened a case. When I went to the police station to ask why they hadn’t followed up with me, they told me that no case had been opened,” De Koker said.

She added that she was not coping well.

“I feel numb at this point, I can’t eat and I can’t sleep,” she said.

At the time of Erin’s disappearance she was wearing a grey hoodie jacket, light blue jeans and a pare of black Vans shoes. Any one with any information on her whereabouts can contact Grassy Park Warrant Officer Carollissen at 021 700 0900. – Additional reporting by Okuhle Hlati
