Soup, soccer poles for schools

Heartfelt campaign concludes on a high note

HEART FM ended its 16 Days For Youth campaign on a high note when the 24-hour station visited Shiloh School in Klipheuwel, Stellenbosch, to make soup and help with fixing the school.

“They had a play area with sand and mud and they also had a roof problem, which we started fixing. Once it’s fixed they can use the centre courtyard to hold their assemblies because the sides are currently open and when it rains they are unable to use it,” said Marlo Paulse.

On Thursday, HeartFMs #16DaysForYouth campaign saw them helping out a needy school in Atlantis. This was at Wesfleur Primary School, which received new soccer poles as it used to rent a soccer field down the street for R800 a month.

HeartFM’s Paulse said the school can now save the money and use it for other important needs.

“We erected the poles and fed about 1 700 pupils through our partnership with Sanzaf. We also had a coaching clinic to help them improve their sport.”

He added that the poles would help the pupils have a place for their extra-curricular activities and not depend on the field down the road.

“The pupils now have a place to host inter-sport activities.”

The #16DaysForYouth initiative, which is in its second year, has seen previous beneficiaries come on board to help others benefit from this youth campaign.

HeartFM, together with its sponsors, has visited a number of communities around the Western Cape in the hope of effecting change. MONDAY JUNE 19 2017
