De Boer takes the reins at Crystal Palace

-

CRYSTAL PALACE have appointed former Ajax Amsterdam and Inter Milan coach Frank de Boer as their new manager on a three-year contract.

The 47-year-old Dutchman has been out of work since he was sacked by Serie A club Inter in November after winning just five of the opening 14 games of the season.

“We have undertaken a thorough interview process to ensure we are in a position to appoint a manager of the calibre and experience that Frank brings with him,” said Palace chairman Steve Parish. “I know he cannot wait to get started and prepare for our fifth season in the top flight.”

Palace have been without a manager since Sam Allardyce opted to leave the south London club at the end of last season after securing their top flight survival.

De Boer played for Ajax and Barcelona during a career which also saw him make 112 appearances for the Dutch national team.

“This role is a hugely exciting opportunity for me, and I cannot wait to get started,” said De Boer.

Cameroon need to improve their football infrastructure if they want to compete with the world’s top teams, coach Hugo Broos said following their Confederations Cup exit.

Despite winning the African Nations Cup in February, Broos added that the five-time continental champions had to stop living on their past success and face reality.

Cameroon were knocked out of the tournament in Russia on Sunday after a 3-1 defeat to Germany left them with one point from three matches.

The Indomitable Lions are also struggling to qualify for next year’s World Cup, having taken only two points from their first two games in African Group B to leave them four behind leaders Nigeria. – Reuters
