The play premiered last year at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown to much acclaim.
It looks at the love affair between a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman, as portrayed by a South African photojournalist, at the dawn of the Yugoslavian war.
But a love affair that blossomed during a childhood friendship between two sides of what has become warring factions is soon to be taboo and the performance raises the timeless question as to whether love can survive war in Sarajevo?
When it made its debut at the National Arts Festival, Ismail Mahomed, the artistic director of the festival, said: “Judging by the way a full house audience was engaged with the play and gave it a rousing applause, I have no doubt that tonight’s work-in-progress performances were the seeds from which a very successful production will grow. Hats off to the young company.”
The Alexander Bar is on Strand Street, Cape Town. Tickets cost R80 if booked online at alexanderbar. co.za or R120 at the door. Advance booking is recommended. Warning: Play includes sex, language and violence.
