HONOURED by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader for 2017 and featured on the cover of Forbes Africa by the age of 30, Rapelang Rabana shared her entrepreneurial success at the Distinguished UCT Alumni Speaker series.

She addressed about 100 students and young entrepreneurs on Saturday.

Rabana is the co-founder of Yeigo Communications, Rekindle Learning.

Straight after graduation, in 2006, at the age of 23, she co-founded the mobile conversation app, Yeigo.com.

Prior to that, she had been tutoring students in maths at Gugulethu.

She introduced Rekindle Learning as an online learning platform, where they create content in small bitesize steps so that students can focus on important concepts.

Rabana said: “In order to be innovate, to make bold decisions and to value equations; you have to start tapping into things that you are disposed to, start with greater awareness, and focus on the things that you notice.

“Your distinguishing factor in the world and life is how you see the world. The best ideas are not going to come up from the Harvard Business Review, but from the things you notice. The reality is that South Africa is not actually doing that badly. South Africa is ranked 46th out of all the countries in the world.”

The executive director for the Development and Alumni Department at UCT, Dr Russell Ally, said as a token of appreciation for our youth Rabana, an alumni of the university, was invited to share her commitment in continuing the university’s academic excellence.
