Keep the cold at bay with the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival

AS ONE of South Africa’s premier comedy festivals, the Jive Cape Town Funny Festival is set to showcase a wide variety of speciality acts, while hosting some of the top stand-up comedians in the country. In its 13th year, the festival, presented by Turkish Airlines, will be taking place at the Baxter Theatre and will run from July 10 to August 6.

The local acts performing in this year’s festival include Marc Lottering, Alan Committie, Dalin Oliver, Mel Jones, Loyiso Madinga, Ndumiso Lindi and Daniel Mpilo Richards.

The internatio­nal acts taking the stage this year are Norway’s greatest artistic export, London’s top magician, and Freddie Mercury lookalike Mario, Queen of the Circus.

The list of confirmed performers with performanc­e dates includes:

Alan Committie (SA) – Master of ceremonies extraordin­aire – full festival.

Marc Lottering (SA) – Mr Cape Town – the country’s top comic – full festival.

Loyiso Madinga (SA) – Comedy’s golden nugget direct from Jozi to the Funny Festival – July 10 – 22 only.

Captain Frodo (Norway) – Norway’s leading artistic export has been travelling the globe since the age of four. What he gets his body to do is mind-boggling! – full festival.

Paul Dabek (England) – Magic like you have never experience­d with a finish that will have you talking for weeks – July 10 to August 2 only.

Mario: Queen of the Circus (US) – “Freddie Mercury” is back with his new show – full festival.

Dalin Oliver (SA) – Watch this Cape Town comic go straight to the top – July 5 to August 6 only. Ndumiso Lindi (SA) – July 25 to August 6 only. Mel Jones (SA) – July 10-22 only. Daniel Mpilo Richards (SA) – August 2 – 6 only.

Tickets cost R190 per person. Discounts are offered to groups of 10 or more people. Bookings can be made at Computicke­t, and group bookings can be made by phoning the Baxter Theatre at 021 685 7800.
