Businessman feared kidnapped
POLICE are searching for a prominent Cape Town businessman who was allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday evening.
Sadeck Zhaun Ahmed is believed to have been kidnapped by four assailants outside his offices in Victoria Road, Salt River just before 6pm. Eyewitnesses told Bush Radio intern Tammy Koeberg, who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, that “four suspects jumped from a white bakkie, and wrestled with the man who is allegedly a business owner while he was putting things in the boot of his BMW”.
“One of his staff members tried to intervene but the four suspects then Tasered the man, leaving the staff member behind. They forced him into the bakkie and fled the scene,” Koeberg said.
“The circumstances surrounding the disappearance of (Ahmed) are still unknown at this stage as the investigation continues,” police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said.
The manager of an antique store owned by Ahmed said his family was saddened by his disappearance: “It’s a hard time for them.” She did not wish to be identified.
When the Cape Argus visited Ahmed’s offices yesterday staff had been given strict instructions not to speak to the media.
Bush Radio programme integrator Adrian Louw said: “Everyone is shocked by the situation and we will assist the family and the police wherever we can.”
The building out of which Bush Radio operates is owned by Ahmed. He owns several properties in the area.
Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has called on the public to come forward with any information: “There were around 30-40 people waiting for a bus in the area. I am appealing to them to come forward.”
Ahmed’s disappearance is the latest in a spate of apparent kidnappings of businessmen. Mustapha Goolam was the second member of the Bangladesh, Indian and Pakistani (BIP) community to be kidnapped between November and December 2016.
