Women’s Day event pays homage

-

FATIMA Wise and her sister, granddaughters of human rights lawyer and judge Essa Moosa, who died earlier this year, are organising a Women’s Day event.

They organised a successful women’s motivational and upliftment event in 2015, but unfortunately their grandmother died on the day, so they were unable to attend.

This year, Wise and her sister will use the day to pay homage to women.

“It was (a) coincidence that she passed away on National Women’s Day, as she was indeed a woman of strength and determination. This memorable day pays homage to the women of our nation: the mothers, the wives, the sisters and the daughters who, like my grandmother, fought tirelessly against the tyranny of the apartheid regime.” Wise said.

Wise said that during Moosa’s last few months he spoke vehemently about fighting for the poor and downtrodden.

“He drove women empowerment, women equality and women’s equity.”

This year Wise plans to donate a portion of the profits to a women’s upliftment centre.

“We believe that if you empower and uplift women you empower a nation and we would like this message to be carried through this event.”

The event will be hosted at the President Hotel in Bantry Bay on Wednesday and breakfast will be served to 100 guests. – Staff Reporter
