Dreamy dresses for your wedding day

Think long-sleeves, plunge backs, lace and embroidery,

- writes Omeshnie Naidoo

THE devil is in the detail. That’s certainly true for wedding dresses. They may appear to come in just one colour but there are various hues, fabrications, embellishments and cuts to make each dress as unique as the woman who wears it.

Whether you want to look like you’re in your lingerie or be as fringed and feathered as a bird, designers have mastered the art of the wedding dress to an international standard.

The latest offerings from fashion designers Hanrie Lues-Du Preez of Hanrie Lues Bespoke Bridal and Evening, Jane Wolff and Dale McCarthy of McCarthy Wolff Bridalwear & Corsetry and Casey Jeanne of Jeannelle l’Amour Bridal are an ode to the craft.

When it comes to trends, the modest, long-sleeved dress remains popular years after the Duchess of Cambridge resurrected it. A low back adds a hint of sensuality.

Lues said: “Right now the boho-lux trend is taking the internet and social media by storm! Next season look out for a return to fuller skirts in tulle and chiffon.”

She added that many brides are opting for less or no beadwork, preferring texture and beautiful lace designs.

Where you wear the dress is equally important. According to photographer Emma-Jane Harbour, the inner-city wedding trend, with weddings held in town halls or vibrant parts of the CBD, is popular with brides right now.

“There’s nothing more beautiful than an ethereal bride set against an industrial backdrop, with aeroplanes overhead, taxis hooting and the sweeping energy of the city all around.

“In my opinion the must-have pictures should include street shots – dancing and walking in the road past beautiful old buildings or modern skyscrapers, and, if you have access to a rooftop, some sunset rooftop pictures.”
