Health, job creation and hot coffee makes life better

- By Danny Oosthuizen

WE were blessed with some decent rain last week. Much needed, I must say. I love the smell of the clean air after the rain. The terrible smell some streets and pavements carry is then all washed away… and fresh. The bridges around Woodstock became a shelter for many homeless during the storms. It was bitterly cold and wet. Not an easy situation to stay dry. I used to hate the damp smell that was in the air. Wet shoes and socks are the worst. I would like to inform everybody that most homeless have bad eyesight. I am investigating the possibility of helping those in need. Also, dental care is a dire need. All other health issues are covered most of the time.

Vitamin supplements are something clinics cannot provide us with anymore. At the most, one can get vitamin C.

If any of our readers have ideas on this, it will be awesome to hear.

There are various job-creating initiatives being planned to support those who would like to work. Many skills are going to waste out there.

People need an opportunity to prove themselves. Painters, plumbers, builders, etc. I would like to create a database for skilled workers and, with this information, the public and business can select suitable workers from this list.

Job creation is a huge possibility. At the moment nobody knows about anything.

Self-empowerment is uplifting and good for one’s soul.

These is also amazing music and art talent out there – we just need a platform to show this to the public. It is all about awareness, to create interaction between us all.

Several shops in the inner city showed us compassion during the cold, wet weather. We could line up for a free cup of coffee.

People, a warm cup of coffee to us is like hitting the jackpot. I want to thank each and everybody involved, you are making someone’s life so much better. And it is not just because of the coffee…it is the acknowledgment of one’s humanity towards another.

I went to the Prins & Prins Museum of Gems on Saturday. I went to see the dress Anneline Kriel wore during her crowning as Miss World. Beautiful gold fabric covered in Krugerrands.

I was overwhelmed with this “proudly South African” feeling in my heart. The museum is very educational. I learnt so much about the stones, metals, and design that were used in the past. I can hear Miss Monroe in my ear singing

Talking about diamonds: our Caster shined bright as a diamond in the women’s 800m in London, claiming gold. Again, proudly South African.

I have come to learn that some situations are out of our hands. We need to concentrate on what makes us productive.

Do your bit to better the world we live in. -
