Cavendish Square robbery

THE Telkom shop in Cavendish Square was robbed yesterday at 10.40am of undisclose­d items. No one was injured, and the incident is being investigat­ed.

Police say they have arrested 13 suspects involved in a spate of carjacking cases. Two men aged 22 and 25 were arrested in Delft, and will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court today.

In Khayelitsh­a, three men, aged 24, 25 and 27, were arrested and will appear in the Khayelitsh­a Magistrate’s Court today.

In Gugulethu, six suspects aged between 20 and 25 were arrested and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today.

Two men , aged 34 and 36, were arrested for possession of abalone in Khayelitsh­a. The total amount of abalone found is estimated to have a street value of R6 million.

In Bellville, two suspects were arrested for cable theft between Unibells and Pentech stations.

In Nyanga, Three women and a man are expected to appear in court next week after they were arrested for allegedly beating to death two young men earlier last month. The two victims, aged 20 and 21, were accused of committing robberies in the Browns Farm area.

A 20-year-old male suspect, who had been on the run since December on charges related to murder, was apprehende­d by the police. The suspect appeared in the Athlone Magistrate­s’ Court yesterday.

A man driving a Toyota Corolla that was reportedly hijacked in Bishop Lavis earlier this month, was apprehende­d while in the vehicle yesterday in Bush Street, Nyanga. The suspect is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today charged with the possession of a stolen vehicle.
