Discovery went the extra mile

-

Dear Adrian Gore, people are by nature quick to complain and slow to praise. In April 2017 my son was admitted to the Pretoria East Hospital with a bleeding lung complication.

He had a resurgence of a condition called valley fever. The doctors decided to surgically remove 15% of his lung. This news was devastating and traumatic.

At that stage I was also concerned about the cost implications, being on the Hospital Plan and not the Comprehensive option.

Despite my fragmented state of mental turmoil, my son informed me that a friendly lady from Discovery paid him a visit and enquired as to his well-being.

She wished him a pleasant stay and told him not to hesitate to call her if he needed any assistance.

This reassurance was not only heaven-sent but, in my opinion, above and beyond the call of duty.

It evoked a sense of reassurance and maternal well-being when most needed. At that moment I was proud to be a member of Discovery.

The operation was a huge success. Among others, my son was in ICU for four days. Needless to say, all costs were covered by the Discovery Hospital Plan.

Congratulations Mr Gore, as you certainly have achieved over and beyond what you set out to accomplish in bringing about the best medical aid in South Africa and a worthy worldwide competitor.

My heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to both yourself and your professional outfit at Discovery.

PS: A special thank you to your PA, who serves you well and made it possible to contact you. Ray Howell
