Jam Jam accused ‘needs op’
LEROY Morris, a co-accused in the murder trial of Khayelitsha mother Aviwe Jam Jam is apparently suffering from appendicitis, the Athlone Magistrate’s Court heard.
Morris, 22, and Jam Jam’s boyfriend, Linda Ntulo, made their first dual appearance yesterday.
Jam Jam’s body was found dumped in a field in Athlone on July 29. Her family said she had been battered to death.
Calling for an urgent bail application David Mbazwana, representing both the accused, said Morris was not receiving the necessary care in Pollsmoor Prison.
“Accused number two is suffering from stomach pains, this has to do with his appendix. He has been given pain tablets, but the tablets are not effective. The only way he will be okay is to undergo an appendix operation,” he said.
The bail application was postponed due to the State advocate’s absence. It was set for October 3.
Outside court, Mbazwana said both his clients’ rights were being infringed by the staggered bail application.
“They are being kept in custody for something that they can’t even explain as to what their involvement is. We are waiting on the bail application to find out.”
On Monday, Ntulo appeared at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on an attempted murder case in connection with an incident where he and his friend’s allegedly attacked Jam Jam’s stepfather outside his home in Khayelitsha, Site C.
This case is also in it’s bail application stages. It was postponed to September 27.
