UDF pickets against corruption
VETERAN members of the United Democratic Front (UDF) picketed alongside Right2Know and the newly-formed organisation #UniteBehind outside the National Prosecuting Authority’s offices in Cape Town to protest state corruption.
They delivered a letter to the head of the NPA, Shaun Abrahams, demanding that action be taken against individuals who are involved in corruption.
“Comrades, it’s a travesty and a crying shame that we have to beg these institutions to investigate issues. Today we have to demand that the institutions protect our people. These are not the institutions we fought for, ” spokesperson of the UDF, Zelda Holtzman, said.
The UDF delivered a similar letter last month when they joined #UniteBehind’s coalition march to Parliament calling for President Jacob Zuma to be removed from office. In the letter, the veterans urged Abrahams to withdraw his appeal against prosecution of 783 charges against president Zuma.
“We are here today to say do your duty. When we organised as UDF, we organised on a grassroots level with all communities around all issues affecting their daily lives,” Holtzman said.
The UDF lambasted Abrahams’s response to the letter as “inadequate”. At the picket yesterday the UDF submitted a list of key areas that should be investigated.
