THE coach of the South African Sevens team that will play at the Oktoberfest in Germany this weekend, Paul Deport, says they are excited to lace up their boots for the first time in a while.

Delport, a former Blitzbok, was confident of preparations for the event, and players know just what is expected as they look to set a positive tone for the remainder of the calendar.

“We have not played for a while leading up to the Oktoberfest 7s,” said Delport.

“We had some solid build-up work in Stellenbosch. We now need to go and do the work on the field. “The players are comfortable and confident.” The South Africans will go up against Portugal, Spain and France on day one.

“We have a tough pool, but the guys are all looking forward to playing them,” said Delport.

“We have done our analysis and we know how we want to play against each of them. The weather is great, the sun is out and the guys are enjoying the beauty of Munich. Now we just want to go and play.”

Delport also said that they have settled in well since arrival in Germany on Monday, and was confident in the work they’ve put in for the event.

The side, captained by Springbok Sevens playerDylan Sage, features seven-capped Blitzboks and some exciting new talent.

Marco Labuschagne, Zain Davids, Selvyn Davids, Dewald Human and Ryan Oosthuizen all made their debut for the Blitzboks during the 2016/17 World Rugby Sevens Series – which the South Africans won – and Sage and Siviwe Soyizwapi will add some valuable experience in Munich. THE GAUTENG Department of Education has condemned the behaviour of a Grade 2 pupil at Dalpark Primary in Brakpan who brought a firearm loaded with live rounds of ammunition to school.

Spokesperson Steve Mabona said: “According to information, he brought the gun to school with an intention to harm a fellow pupil.”

The department said the police confiscated the gun and the boy was taken to Brakpan station and a case was opened.

The GDE said the pupil was back at school and counselling was arranged for him. – ANA
