Car show to display latest models

- Adrian Pheiffer

WITH the latest family cars and light commercial vehicles on the South African market on display at the 2017 Killarney Motor Show on October 15, prospective buyers are going to have a field day.

Making their task (and therefore their comparison), even easier, several models will be available for test runs on a section of the race track.

And to ensure that finding the individual dealers and manufacturers is not too laborious a task, the organisers have ensured that “pit stops” for rest and a variety of refreshment are available along the way.

The Jaguar/Land Rover range continues to expand.

So they have taken the unique opportunity of displaying and demonstrating a selection of their Jaguar F-Pace, as well as Land Rover Discovery and Sport models.

Known as the Terrapod, the metallic device used for this purpose bears a vague resemblance to the Big Wheel at an upmarket fun fair. It has been designed to visually demonstrate the all-terrain capabilities of the vehicle. For those with a fear of heights, or who are not prepared for the real thing, Jaguar/Land Rover is hoping to have sets of virtual FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 29 2017 reality goggles available to enable those seated on considerably less comfortable canvas chairs, to enjoy the same experience.

Of course, this need for a large display area also applies to Scania, which are going to need the space for their exhibition of (very), heavy duty trucks.

Another is a range of topless double decker buses and, preTrump high-speed American police force, pursuit cars.

Then, on a lighter note and closer to home, there is going to be a (literally), moving display by AfrikaBurns. While the name itself is hardly self-explanatory, the central icon and effigy of the event, the San Clan, is derived from the images found in San rock art in southern Africa and symbolises a community as one.
