Bonteheuwe­l Jazz Day boasts top line-up

THE Jazz Yard Academy with Community Chest will have Jazz Day in Bonteheuwe­l tomorrow.

The event is part of showcasing the local talent of young people and their entreprene­urial developmen­t to a delegation from Rutgers University in the US.

The line-up artists for the Saturday morning one-day Jazz will be the likes of the Jazz Yard Academy members, the Delft Big Band, Capetonian trumpeter, Darren English, and Rashid Lombard, founder of the Cape Town Internatio­nal Jazz festival.

Kyle Farmbry, dean of the Graduate School in Rutgers University, said: “We want to develop the disadvanta­ged and marginalis­ed individual­s young people to realise their full potential. We have scholarshi­p that can help the young Cape town to study further being Jazz music or entreprene­urial developmen­t and developmen­tal studies, which will help them to excel and plough back to the South African economy.”

“We are very pleased and excited to work with Community Chest on developmen­t and creation opportunit­y for the youth. The relationsh­ip that we have we hope will over time build young successful people in both countries.”

Rutgers University focuses on South African non-profit organisati­ons that bring about change to the youth. Since the partnershi­p in 2014 with Community Chest, 19 young people have seen their life change for the better in South Africa.
