Missing Kuils River child of 4: cops arrest suspects

- Marvin Charles

POLICE have confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction of four-year-old Anisa Mohamud from Kuils River.

“Two suspects aged 26 and 36 year old were arrested and appeared in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court. The investigation is ongoing, the child is being sought,” Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said.

Rwexana also said that a case of abduction had been opened.

The whereabouts of Anisa is still unknown. She was last seen nearly a week ago in the Kuils River area. It’s believed that the child was snatched last week by people who are friends of her parents.

The four-year-old went missing on Wednesday in Van Riebeek Road, Kuils River at 4.30pm. It is unknown what the child was wearing at the time.

She is described as being of medium build and has black hair. The abduction of Anisa has sent shock waves through the Kuils River community. “Its very suspicious to us that it was described that friends allegedly took the child. That already puts off the alarm bells,” Kuils River community leader Dawn Roode said.

She said that she was trying to look into the matter.

“I definitely will be looking further into this and following up with the parents because this needs our attention. We are too quiet regarding this and we shouldn’t be,” Roode said.

The last highly publicised abduction that occurred in Kuils River happened 18 years ago.

Renata Ismail disappeared from her mother’s house in Sarepta, Kuils River in March 1999.

It’s believed that an unknown man took the little girl from her mother’s room while she was asleep.
