Marshall can land a fifth

-

BETTING has opened on the R1 million Forus Cape Guineas to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday. Bookmakers make Tap O’ Noth 5-1 favourite to give Vaughan Marshall a fifth win in the classic.

White River

Second favourite at 13-2 is the Brett Crawford-trained White River, who was beaten 0.50 lengths by Rocket Countdown (7-1) in last month’s Gr2 Selangor Cup. White River had to be straightened in the closing stages that day as he was trying to bite the winner’s hindquarters.

Also on 7-1 is the Justin Snaith-trained Do It Again, who was less than 0.50 lengths further back third in the Selangor. Sharing the 8-1 odds are fifthplaced Undercover Agent (previously a 0.75-length second to Tap O’ Noth in the Cape Classic) and Bold Respect who made a brave effort to overcome a terrible draw in the Lanzerac Ready To Run.

Sir David Baird

Mike de Kock’s fluent KZN Guineas Trial winner Sir David Baird is easy to back thus far, at 10-1. Other prices are 9-1 Captain And Master, 12-1 Like A Panther, Sir Frenchie, 14-1 Wonderwall, 16-1 Pack Leader, 20-1 Purple Diamond, Cot Campbell, 25-1 Eyes Wide Open.

Dean Kannemeyer’s unbeaten fouryear-old Last Winter has been priced up at 2-1 to win the Grade 2 Premier Trophy over 1800m.

Kannemeyer had originally entered his charge to run in last week’s Gr2 Green Point Stakes over 1 600m but felt the competition in the weight-for-age event was too strong as his charge would have been badly weighted in that line-up.

Betting: 2-1 Last Winter; 4-1 Nebula; 11-2 Deo Juvente; 6-1 Horizon, Black Arthur; 8-1 Krambambuli; 10-1 Milton; 14-1 Platinum Prince; 16-1 Ollivander, 20-1 Ovidio: 25-1 Opera Royal.
