Teachers want to know why creche to close MCQP promises a night of mythic adventure

- Marvin Charles Marvin Charles

RETREAT residents are up in arms over the pending closure of Square Hill Creche. It’s believed a mosque is to be built on the property.

Teachers said they were given retrenchment letters. “I received a letter and we found out from a parent what the committee’s plans are,” Rudayvah Theron said.

Theron said the teachers have been left in the dark.

“The committee does not want to provide us with any information regarding their plans. They are they not telling us anything.”

According to the lawyer representing the teachers, the Square Hill Islamic Educational Society committee did not follow right processes when retrenching the staff.

“The committee failed due process and did not inform the parents accordingly of the closure as the community was not consulted about it,” Nawaal Giddion said.

Theron said the teachers feel unsettled. “We feel very lost and it makes me very sad. We don’t know what to do next because we feel very discouraged,” she said.

The creche is built on Waqf land which means that the property is not subject to be taken away or to be given away by the owner according to Islamic law. It usually involves donating a building, plot of land or other belongings for Muslim religion.

The creche has been operating for more than 50 years and currently looks after 30 children.

The committee is responsible for supplying the creche with additional resources but according to Theron, they have been arranging their own resources for a while.

The Square Hill Islamic Educational Society said the closure was still under discussion.

“We cannot give you any comment because this is still under discussion with the committee,” president Sedick Dicky said.

Dicky also refuted allegations that the incorrect processes to retrench staff were followed.

“People have the wrong perception and are making up all sorts of allegations of what we have in place,” he said.

He also said there were no plans to build a mosque in its place. THERE will be kings and spitting dragons and of course queens aplenty at the annual MCQP party at the Castle of Good Hope tomorrow.

The MCQP Dungeons and Dragons event will be taking place and the Castle of Good Hope will be transformed into a place of mythical creatures, royalty and warriors and loads of knights in shining armour.

Also you can expect over 50 local and international artists performing on eight individual dance floors.

Each dance floor will have different genres such as live cabaret, electro, trance and deep house.

Among the artists expected to perform are Funky G, Groovy Q, Manila Von Teez and Maxine Wild.

The event will be returning to the Castle of Good Hope after 17 years, which itself celebrates more than 350 years since construction this year.

Those attending can rest assured that a building which survived centuries will most certainly be able to withstand any weather conditions that the Mother City might plan for the evening.

It will be unable to cause any unpleasantness even if she sends thunder and lightning together with howling winds to add her own special effects to the atmosphere of the theme.

“We’re going bigger, better and bolder than ever before. Understanding we had had two years of bad weather for MCQP – this year boasts seven indoor dance areas and one outdoor – so no matter what the weather we are ready for you! Hundreds of wannabe Jon Snows, Tyrion Lannisters, Daenerys Targaryens, Khaleesis, the Amazon woman Brienne of Tarth, Merlin or other creatures of the night will descent on ‘Cape Landing’ this summer to follow the dark knights of doom at the event,” Ian McMahon, director of MCQP, said.

MCQP Dungeons & Dragons will start at 8pm tomorrow. General access tickets costs R380, the Camelot Throne VIP tickets cost R975 which includes a host of benefits including complimentary drinks and easy access. Additional options are available online at www.quicket.co.za, as well as on other online sites and at high street outlets.

Privé Kings Chamber suites are also available on request allowing 20 to 30 of your round table knights and friends special privileges at the coronation event.
