Cutting ties with Israel over capital is anti-Semitic

- BRIAN JOSSELOWITZ Milnerton

YOUR story, “Religious leaders call to cut Israeli ties,” Cape Argus, Wednesday), was full of the usual claptrap, suggesting that the “humanitarian crisis” was Israel’s fault for “violating international law”.

The people you quoted were at pains to explain that their protest was not motivated by religion.

Yeah, right, it was motivated by hatred of Israel and by extension the Jews. Well-known anti-Israel and anti-Zionist activist, Terry Crawford-Browne from Palestinian Solidarity Cape Town, said a “non-violent approach needs to be taken to solve the issues between the two countries”. But it is the Arabs who instigate the violence when they don’t get their own way. BDS which is notoriously anti-Semitic was among the organisations calling for the march to Parliament. However, what intrigued me was the image accompanying the report which prominently featured Heidi Grunebaum from South African Jews for a Free Palestine who also put in her two bits of anti-Israel rhetoric.

These organisations should rather try to put things right in South Africa first before meddling in the affairs of another country. As for your other regular guru on the Middle East, Councillor Yagyah Adams of the Cape Muslim Congress, he must spend his time in chambers dreaming up conspiracy theories, (“Trump a danger to peace in Middle East”, Cape Argus, Cape Points, Tuesday).

Donald Trump may be a nutter but he did the right thing by declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel. Adams should know this as he is always quoting the G*d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who promised Jerusalem to the Jews 3 000 years ago. Perhaps Adams can explain why the Arabs react with violence whenever there are signs of a peace accord being reached by Israel and Palestine.
