Healthy debate on Palestinian question

- AL GAFOOR Retreat

CHARLOTTE Caine, in her letter, “Headline reveals paper’s bias” (Cape Argus, January 9), quotes from Hitler’s Mein Kampf, saying if you tell a lie long enough and frequently enough, it will be believed.

Unfortunately for Caine, this theory has backfired on Israel and their ilk. Ask poor Nikki Haley, America’s representative who forlornly faced the wrath of the international community in recent events in the UN.

Of interest in the litany of responses to my letter were contradictions in the varying responses, adopting diversionary tactics in labelling me with unfounded accusations rather than addressing the subject at hand. In summary it was a useful and healthy debate for a nation in search of the truth.

May I conclude by quoting from B’Tselem: “Israel’s regime of occupation is intrinsically bound up by human rights violations.”

B’ Tselem tries to end the occupation, as that is the only way forward in which human rights, democracy, liberty and equality are ensured for all who live between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

B’ Tselem was founded in 1989 and devotes most of its time to documenting human rights violations under Israel’s purview as an occupying power.

It publicises these violations to expose the injustice and dispossession that lie at the core of this regime of occupation.

It enjoys a strong human rights record in Israel and abroad and is the recipient of many human rights awards. It is an independent and non-partisan organisation and funded by donations alone.

Respondents may wish to research the works of B’Tselem to find a balanced and broad overview of events in Palestine.
