Ndoro has the firepower Ajax need to halt the slide
AJAX CAPE TOWN coach Muhsin Ertugral feels upbeat about his new striker Tendai Ndoro.
“He knows what I want from him and I know what he can do for me,” Ertugral said.
“Tendai is a proper player, the complete package, he knows how to score goals and we’ve been shy in this department.
“His mere presence alone can only have a positive influence on his new teammates and help them reach their full potential .
“So he will be upfront for us against Platinum Stars at Cape Town Stadium on Friday night in a PSL fixture we must win to ease our plight at the wrong end of the table.
“It’s my third game in charge and I feel the boys are ready to deliver a positive result.
“I’ve seen improvement in the two defeats we’ve suffered, especially in the game against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.
“We started well but then sat back after going 1-0 ahead, allowing a top side like Sundowns to come back at us hard and secure the 2-1 victory.
“We kept them scoreless in the second half, while creating chances to win it.
“I’m sure we could have buried the game in the first half had Tendai being playing, he would have buried those half-chances and we could have been 3-0 up.
“But his work permit wasn’t ready… but now he’s an Ajax man ready to help us turn the corner.
“Tendai and I worked together before at Pirates last season and he scored a dozen goals for the Buccaneers, showing his class in the process and that’s why I made contact with him… and he was keen to leave Saudi Arabia to come to us and strut his stuff.
“He’s an intelligent footballer and that makes him such a dangerous threat to opposing defences.
“I can’t wait to unleash him against Stars, who like us, are struggling.”
The Zimbabwean international has committed his services to Ajax for the next two seasons after successfully passing his medical, and he has already started training with his new teammates.
He joins from Saudi Arabian-outfit Al-Faisaly for an undisclosed fee.
The former Mpumalanga Black Aces marksman has the required firepower that will help boost Ajax’s chances of avoiding relegation.
The Parow-based team is, after three consecutive defeats, second from bottom on the PSL standings that is propped up by defending champions Wits.
“It’s great to be in the Mother City and playing for a big club like Ajax, who have such a proud history,” said 32-year-old Ndoro.
“I just want to thank Muhsin and the club for bringing me here.
“Now I must repay the faith in me by scoring goals. I see the country’s strikers battling to put the ball into the back of the net. “I would like to show how it’s done. “Obviously I need support from my players for that to happen, and I’m sure they will set me up with chances to score.
“I really do believe we can start winning games – watch us do that in the remaining fixtures.
“No way Ajax will stay where they are, there’s too much quality in the ranks, it just needs to shine through.”
