-

FRIDAY JANUARY 12 2018 TWO PEOPLE died and four others were injured yesterday when a small truck and a light motor vehicle collided head-on on the N1 Highway in Vekeerde Vlei, about 70km outside of Winberg, paramedics have said.

“ER24 paramedics, along with the Provincial Services, arrived on the scene to find a truck and light motor vehicle in the middle of the road.

“Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision,” ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found two of the patients had sustained numerous, fatal injuries.

“Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead,” he said.

Meiring said four other patients had been found on the scene, two of them in a critical condition.

The other two had sustained moderate injuries.

“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support.”

He said once treated, the two critically injured had been airlifted by Provincial Medical Helicopters to nearby hospitals.

“The two other patients were transported by ambulance to Pelonomi Hospital for urgent treatment.”
