Taxi driver held over 26 warrants

-

CAPE Town Traffic Services apprehended a 34-year-old suspect, who was also a taxi driver, on Tuesday for warrants totalling over R60 000.

The suspect evaded a roadblock in Blackheath, causing Traffic Services to give chase.

The suspect was eventually apprehended when he was forced to stop at the Buttskop Railway Crossing. After the suspect was loaded into the Traffic Services patrol vehicle, he again tried to escape.

However, he was caught a second time.

Traffic officers ran his name through eNatis (Electronic National Traffic Administration Information Systems), and it was revealed he had 26 outstanding warrants, causing officers to arrest him, detaining him at Bluedowns police station.

The suspect appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded to Goodwood Prison.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said: “We will continue to conduct roadblocks and will apprehend all suspects with outstanding warrants. Those who infringe on traffic laws will be punished.”

A shooting that occurred on the corners of Symphony Way and Erica Drive in Belhar has resulted in the death of a 52-yearold male.

The victim was shot and fatally wounded at approximately 08.05am yesterday by an unknown suspect.

According to Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said: “The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, and no arrests have been made at this stage,” she says. – Staff Reporter
