Bottled water donation for Sanzaf feeding scheme

- Marvin Charles

THE SA National Zakáh Fund (Sanzaf ) has come to the aid of many drought-stricken Capetonians.

Sanzaf in Pietermaritzburg has donated more than 60 000 five-litre bottles of water to its affiliates in Cape Town to help alleviate the drought crisis.

“We made an appeal to all our offices across the country to donate water and our colleges in KwaZulu-Natal gave us 65 000 five-litre bottles of water,” Sanzaf spokesperson Sakeena Bock said.

Sanzaf is a faith-based socio-welfare and educational organisation which aims to empower needy families through its various projects.

They also have branches across the country.

Bock said Sanzaf felt the pinch of the water crisis.

“The crisis is dire and as an organisation we feel it.

“We have feeding schemes across various parts of the Western Cape and it has had a severe impact on our menu – we were forced to make sandwiches instead of hot food,” Bock said.

Sanzaf has up to 100 feeding schemes on a monthly basis in various communities such as the Cape Flats and the Boland.

It also provides families with food aid hampers each month and this includes a five-litre water bottle.

“We decided to make a call out of the Western Cape to our colleges in December. They have donated five-litre bottles of water that will be distributed,” Bock said.
