Rally to Ramaphosa’s call

- MO NOOR JOSEPH Crawford

WHEN President Ramaphosa in his Sona speech intuitively said that South Africa is the “best country, with the best people in the world”, it gave me goosebumps.

We struggled and overcame apartheid with a minimal loss of life and in the process gave the world an icon in the late Nelson Mandela, as well as Bishop Desmond Tutu and others.

The same two gentleman, who resided in the same street, in the same city of Soweto, went on to become the “best in the world” Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.

We also have the best constitution in the world. It has passed the test in facilitating a smooth transition of power from one president to another under the most difficult circumstances.

It was achieved in a most peaceful and orderly manner.

And to top it all, where else in the world do you have complete freedom of religion and freedom of speech, where millions of people with countless different cultures and hues live in harmony?

We now also have a new president with a promise of a much better future for all. We are truly blessed.

To echo the words of Malcolm Felgate: “My faith in South Africa has been restored”.

We are a proud nation with a beautiful country blessed with minerals and all other riches. We must thank the Almighty.

We now have the people’s favourite: President Ramaphosa at the helm to steer us in the right direction and to move us forward as one nation.

Ramaphosa in his Sona speech has covered everything in a positive way.

He laid out his future plans to the satisfaction of almost the entire nation and so too, to the rest of the international world.

When asked in an interview about their reaction to the president’s speech, all opposing parties were satisfied and showed their appreciation but cautioned that talk is cheap and that the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

My gut feeling tells me that in the next few years there will be a lot of pudding to be eaten.

If we want to share in the eating of that pudding we should rally to the call of the president and say: “I wanna lend a hand… send me”.
