An action (wo)man needed
THOUGH I had a few letters published in the Cape Argus in support of President Cyril Ramaphosa I remain only cautiously optimistic.
I refuse to become overawed by the euphoria as was similar to the American case study regarding former president Barack Obama.
Like Obama, Ramaphosa is making many promises. Sadly, Obama delivered on few promises and could not even shut down the globally-condemned illegal detention centre, Guantanamo Bay.
Obama in retrospect was a lame duck president who was “all talk and no result”, a sterile waste of time who only gave rise to the megalomaniac President Donald Trump. What South Africa needs is a “man of action” or perhaps a “woman of promise and action”.
Since Ramaphosa will struggle getting rid of the mess left behind by former president (Jacob) Zuma, I suggest Ramaphosa appoints Lindiwe Sisulu as his deputy president.
Sisulu is an accomplished, very attractive, well-educated African woman with an unquestionable Struggle and family pedigree.
Her skills and history are very rare in the ANC where women have few genuine skills.
Sisulu must be given the task of eradicating corruption, maladministration, and wasteful and fruitless expenditure from the entire South African government. She must be given authority to override any minister and to investigate ministers etc and to suggest the removal of those who fail to achieve “clean audits” as determined by the Auditor General of South Africa.
Ramaphosa will have too many international obligations to repair and will not have the time and energy to drill deep enough into the belly of corruption as it currently exists.
Sisulu must not be burdened with any other obligations besides finding and punishing those responsible for wasting rate and taxpayer’s money. It is obvious that the Public Protector and other State apparatuses are toothless in the face of crushing wasteful and fruitless expenditure.
Example: currently many politicians and officials criss-cross the globe attending international and regional conferences that will have no genuine impact on local service delivery. Government, including municipalities, are wasting billions of rand on activities that have no outcomes at all.
The wasting of resources must stop as it is a crime that so many departments and parastatals attend useless meetings, while locals have limited access to food and water. Politicians and officials who fly up and down and eat extravagantly at the taxpayer’s expense must be stopped.
