Police in drug bust after a tip-off
POLICE efforts to clamp down on drugs were beefed up on the Cape Flats yesterday when City of Cape Town Metro police raided a home in Manenberg, confiscating large quantities of mandrax and dagga.
“Officers obtained permission to search the premises and found 260 dagga stoppers, 70 mandrax tablets, 36 dagga cigarettes and 19 bags of dagga,” Metro police spokesperson Zelda Martin said.
Two male suspects were taken into custody after the raid. Officials had received a tip-off from the community about drugs allegedly being sold at the house.
In a separate case, a 30-year-old male suspect from Manenberg was arrested for alleged possession of mandrax tablets on the Parade in Cape Town.
Also in the early hours of Friday morning, the City’s law enforcement metal theft unit conducted a stake-out operation due to vandalism and theft of infrastructure at the local sports field in Northpine.
“Officials saw a suspect making his way to the field and caught him damaging the electricity switchboard, while attempting to steal copper wires and circuit breakers. The 26-year-old suspect, who is a resident of ... Kraaifontein, was arrested and charged for possession of housebreaking Implements (and) stolen goods.
“During the arrest, a knife, circuit breaker and pieces of copper wire were confiscated. The financial cost of this one suspect’s actions are unknown at this stage, but is expected to be significant. The suspect will appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court shortly on the aforementioned charges,” the City of Cape Town’s law enforcement inspector Wayne Dyason said
The City’s law enforcement social housing unit said they are carrying out their mandate to rid the City’s rental housing stock of crime. They also arrested a male suspect at Lomond Court, Hanover Park, for possession of 22 straws of tik, one unit of “unga” and R3 290 in cash. – marvin. charles@inl.co.za
