Kraaifontein’s R64m water-wise school taking shape
CONSTRUCTION at the new R64 million water-wise school in Kraaifontein is set to be completed later this year.
The 16-month project is expected to provide a much-needed secondary school for Kraaifontein. The brand new school will accommodate 1 110 pupils from Grades 8 to 12, and 38 teaching and support staff.
Kraaifontein High School boasts “water-wise” features such as the installation of borehole facilities and a tank farm, water-wise sanitary fittings and a water-restrictor on the main water line.
The new school will also consist of 15 senior classrooms, 15 junior classrooms, six specialist classrooms (which includes chemistry labs), computer labs and a multimedia centre. It also contains 11 administration centres and a hall with kitchen, store room and ablution facilities
Yesterday, Transport and Public Works MEC Donald Grant conducted a site visit along with Education MEC Debbie Schäfer.
“The project brought with it some noteworthy empowerment opportunities for the benefit of targeted enterprises and local labourers,” Grant said.
Schäfer said the department invests heavily in school infrastructure to meet the demands for schooling in the province.
“I am pleased that we are able to deliver a school that the Kraaifontein community and its learners can be proud of,” she said.
