Scholars to produce jazz fest concert

- Marvin Charles

THE Cape Town International Jazz Festival Music and Careers Live Performance will be launched at the Artscape Theatre on Sunday.

Musical scholars from participating schools and other music academies will feature in the CTIJF Music and Careers programme. Some of the schools expected to participate are Bergvliet High School, South Peninsula High School, Parel Vallei High School, Chris Hani Secondary School and Eersterivier Secondary School.

The music directors include Camillo Lombard and Donveno Prins.

Many success stories have emerged of the CTIJF Training and Development Programme over the years, as graduates go on to gain vital practical experience.

Several of the students find themselves working at the CTIJF itself, for example – in event production, marketing, media, lighting, staging and sound crews.

The live concert at The Artscape Theatre on Sunday will be produced in its entirety by the students who have participated in the workshops.

All nine schools will present two musical pieces apiece, and from these performances Lombard, Prins and the course director, Craig Parks, along with Billy Domingo, will choose the members of the ‘All Star Band’.

They will perform at the CTIJF Free Community Concert in Greenmarket Square in the week leading up the festival.
