Where is Khoza and is she in or out?

- Mary Jane Mphahlele

THE BATTLE for control of the African Democratic Change (ADeC) is hotting up with questions being raised about the whereabouts of its leader – Makhosi Khoza.

A faction opposed to the former ANC MP maintained she had been suspended while the party said that was not the case.

Former EFF members Mpho Ramakatsa and Lufuno Gogoro said the party’s national council took a resolution on Friday to suspend Khoza.

“The national council of ADeC sat on Friday and took a decision to suspend her. She was suspended by the national council of the party and she will be served with the letter of suspension tomorrow morning. We know that she is fighting back to say that she is not suspended and that she is the leader,” said Gogoro.

Gogoro, who has been had been with the IFP, ANC, EFF and Black First, Land First (BLF) before he joined ADeC, said the party was in disagreement with Khoza to convert the political party into a non-profit organisation. He denied that the pair had been expelled.

ADeC spokesperson Feziwe Ndwayana slammed Khoza’s suspension and charged that the party had opened a fraud case against Gogoro and Ramakatsa.

“They have used our name and given fraudulent letters to people in different provinces to open bank accounts in the name of ADeC; as I am talking to you right now we have been informed by the police station where we laid the charge that they are taking the case to the Hawks,” said Ndwayana.

Political analyst Thabani Khumalo told Independent Media that the future of ADeC was bleak and that the party stood no chance of taking part in the 2019 national elections.

Khumalo said the party was formed at the wrong time by an emotional, frustrated and angered individual.

“I think Makhosi personally is not a leader, she is too emotional and the way she left the ANC she did it out of anger and frustration. When she formed that party, I think opportunists like Ramakatsa and the gentleman from the EFF saw an opportunity and wanted to drive the party into their own direction. Makhosi is the kind of a person who is emotional and ill-disciplined. I think they came on board to hijack the process, hence today they’re the ones who are suspending the person who formed the party, someone who does not have leadership skills,” said Khumalo.
