Discover meaning of mastery at Whisky Live
IT’S TIME once again for whisky lovers – whichever spelling you prefer – to converge on The Lookout from Thursday to Saturday for Whisky Live, where novices and connoisseurs alike gather to share their appreciation of the golden nectar.
Whisky aficionados can look forward to a wide range of whiskies to suit their palates, whether it be a Scottish single malt or blend, American or Irish Whiskey, Taiwanese or perhaps something local and proudly South African.
Doors open at 6pm and the celebrations end at 10pm. There are four newcomers to this year’s event.
The Quiet Man is triple distilled in traditional Irish whiskey pot stills and matured in oak barrels; it offers an ultra-smooth finish.
If you enjoy a bold bourbon, Blanton’s Single Barrel, voted by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible as “liquid gold”; and the Blanton’s Gold Edition, created for discerning connoisseurs who appreciate exceptional smoothness and clean finish in their bourbon whisky, are a must to taste.
And lastly, the smooth and lusciously-finished Buffalo Trace Straight Bourbon Whiskey joins the American mix to round out the newcomers. In addition to the traditional Scottish regional whiskies, including the malts of Speyside.
Patrons who are looking for smoky, sweet and floral flavoured blends can enjoy smooth operators such as Scottish Leader, combining smoke and honey. The Scottish Leader 12-Year Old recently won Gold at the 2018 World Whiskies Awards.
Enthusiasts can yet again look forward to the elegantly balanced smoky and fruity flavours of Black Bottle, with notes of sweet oak and cinnamon.
Tommy Dewar had two passions: whisky and chickens. Apart from making the award winning Dewar’s Blended Scotch, legend has it that Tommy raised a collection of pedigree chickens which laid some of the best eggs, bringing the Dewar’s Scotch Egg Club to life.
