Living a life of purpose
WITHOUT women like her, who were unflinching and unwavering in their struggle for justice for all, we would never have the platform we have today to establish life-giving initiatives within our communities.
When I founded Sisters in Solidarity South Africa in 2012, I was driven by the passion to see more women’s ideas come to fruition, their organisations and businesses thrive, for them to embrace the fullness of their womanhood, to stand tall – even in a patriarchal society that seeks to discredit the leadership of women at any given opportunity.
I was compelled to serve with both my innate and acquired gifts – because women like Mama Winnie ensured, through the demonstration of their conviction, that being docile and subdued could never be an option in a time when women’s birthright to exist proudly in the world was compromised, even to the core, by their very humanity being questioned.
Winnie Mandela’s passing affirms, as surely as her lived life, that: “We will NOT be silent…” Whoever said the words, “She did not die, but multiplied”, understands the spirit of mam’ Nomzamo… Because today, even the “underdog” has the right to speak – and be heard.
I am so grateful to be a woman of words… Words that can continue to elevate those who deserve to be honoured, words which I hope can become transcendental in generations to come. We are weavers of time. Nurturers of the soul, good-fight warriors, midwives of community, rebels with a cause undisputed by destiny, because fate will agree that there is nothing more clear than an idea whose time has arrived!
Yes, we are, because of them… Those who upheld an idea for which death was never going to be an obstacle.
I cannot believe I am born in this country, of this country… Too much spirit is in it. Being here, is like dying and waking in love.
I touch God’s face every time I am in conversation and in relationship with humanity… And I cannot believe the depth of human treasures I discover in every delving into the sacredness of who and what a human being truly is.
Our efforts, like maWinnnie’s, should emulate principle over position – because status, really, is nothing compared to what living one’s original purpose can bring to the world.
