Do not make a martyr of Hani’s killer

-

PROPONENTS of the “missing truth” behind Chris Hani’s murder should consider the background and motivation behind the crime.

Why would someone who lived his entire life under Soviet communism in Poland travel thousands of kilometres to a new adopted country and while here commit the vile crime of murdering a leading proponent of communism?

What was so deserving of such hatred? The person propagating communism for a liberated South Africa, perhaps? The very ideology of communism itself ? Or both? Perhaps the “missing truth” is that such a profound hatred of communism and its pervasive ontology of engineered equality, which today we see very little or no support for – not in the former Soviet controlled East-bloc countries, nor in Russia.

The victim – Hani – never lived under an imposed communist system.

The Polish killer Janusz Walus lived his entire life under imposed communism, with no freedom of choice. Walus’ object of hatred was clear. Hani’s hatred was towards an imposed system of apartheid ideology.

Would Hani have killed to have apartheid removed? With a warped logic, Walus believed that if you kill the person who symbolises an idea, you kill the idea itself.

In the absence of certainty as to who else the conspirators were behind Hani’s killing, it most certainly was a conspiracy inspired by a profound hatred of communism.

However, the continued conjuring up of conspirators and conspiracy theories should never be allowed to turn this undeserving Polish killer into a martyr.
