Judgment today in Panayiotou’s appeal bid
THE Port Elizabeth High Court has heard that what was said in the undercover police sting operation which implicated wife killer Christopher Panayiotou cannot be used against him.
Panayiotou brought an application for leave to appeal his murder conviction.
Defence advocate Terry Price argued before Judge Dayalin Chetty that Panayiotou was convicted on the basis of what happened in the police operation where Luthando Siyoni implicates Panayiotou in his wife Jayde’s murder in 2015, saying that what self-confessed middleman Siyoni said to the businessman in the car was inadmissible.
State advocate Marius Stander opposed the application, saying that Price was incorrect in applying the test.
Chetty will give judgment in the application today. – African News Agency (ANA)
