Desalination plants almost complete

-

THE Sustainability and Resilience Portfolio Committee conducted an oversight inspection of the City of Cape Town’s desalination plants at Monwabisi and Strandfontein.

It is pleasing to note that the aforesaid plants are well under way, and that the Strandfontein plant will produce 7 million litres of drinking water a day by the end of this month.

Already plant staffers are testing and drinking the water, with excellent reports about the water quality.

Officials report that the Monwabisi plant will be fully operational within three months.

These are excellent developments in respect of the drought water crisis that the Western Cape is experiencing, and we commend all similar desalination initiatives by the private sector.
