Solar energy firm up for award

A SOUTH African company, SOLA Future Energy, responsibl­e for installing Robben Island’s solarpower system has been selected as a finalist in the Vision of 2030 awards.

The Vision awards recognise organisati­ons, enterprise­s and individual­s that are aligned with the government’s Nine-Point Plan to boost economic growth and the National Developmen­t Plan (NDP).

The awards reinforce both the public and private sector’s commitment to what is essentiall­y a blueprint for the nation.

SOLA Future Energy got the tender from the Department of Tourism to install a solar-powered mini-grid plant on Robben Island that would save the department about R5 million annually.
